Don’t shrug off musculoskeletal pain

Don’t shrug off musculoskeletal pain, warns CSP

The CSP is urging people to be proactive about painful musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, after a survey showed that many people delay seeing their GP.

news-msk.jpg
In a survey of 2,000 adults conducted in the UK by health insurer Bupa, about one in four (23 per cent) said they would only see their GP after having muscle, bone or joint pain for a month or more.

In addition, one in three (33 per cent) said they would manage their condition with painkillers rather than seeing a doctor.

CSP professional adviser Priya Dasoju told Frontline: ‘People with painful MSK conditions should seek medical attention as soon as possible if the pain is severe or persistent.

‘Painkillers can provide pain relief but this may be short-term and not address the underlying cause of symptoms.

‘Leaving an injury until it gets worse can lead to longer-term problems and a recurrence of symptoms. But receiving appropriate treatment, such as physiotherapy, early on can speed recovery and ensure appropriate advice is received about how to self-manage the condition and avoid it coming back’.

The survey also found that

  • three respondents in 10 (30 per cent) said muscle, bone or joint pain was not a serious medical problem
  • one in 10 (11 per cent) said they lacked the time to see a doctor about their condition
  • almost four in 10 (37 per cent) would consider treating or managing their condition with alternative therapies, such as yoga or going to the gym

Clinical Pilates Classes – New Term Starting

Clinical Pilates Classes at Saltash Physiotherapy Clinic

Pilates classes: New term starts 11th January 2017….a few spaces left.

Pilates is a fantastic way to increase your strength and flexibility, preventing injury and for rehabilitation, improving posture and in the treatment and management of back pain.

The aim of Clinical Pilates is to assess the movement and control of the whole spine and pelvic region, then use specific exercises to help correct the problem areas. We focus on the quality and precision on the movement rather than repetitions and quantity. See our Website for more details

Our classes are kept small with 3/4 people so that the physio can keep a close eye on you making sure that you are only doing things properly and not cheating!!

Classes are £12 each when block booked for the term (normally 6 weeks) please contact the clinic  if you are interested in booking a space.

Places are limited so get in quick, however if there is enough demand other classes may be set up.

A New Year and New Phase for Saltash Physiotherapy Clinic

A New Year and New Phase for

Saltash Physiotherapy Clinic

So we start 2017 with lots of exciting new plans and ventures. As many of you will know I have had the fabulous opportunity to buy the business after working for Fiona for the past 2 years. Fiona is still around but slowly reducing her hours clinically in preparation for her retiring in the early part of this year. After running the clinic for 25 years its a well deserved retirement may I add.

My aim for Saltash Physiotherapy Clinic is to keep the basic ethos of a friendly patient centred clinic offering great quality care just with a little bit of updating regarding technology.

For those that we have seen recently you will already know about our new premises on Callington Road, Saltash which we are very lucky to have. We converted a residential bungalow into the Physiotherapy clinic which is working really well with great parking and lovely big bright rooms.

We have a new computer system at the clinic which will help with the clinical database and financial running of the business and we have set up a Facebook page to keep you and the wider community up to date with what’s going on at the clinic, so please visit and like our page if you are a fellow Facebook user! Not to worry if not, I aim to send an electronic version as a newsletter out each month (or by post for those not on the internet!) so no one misses out!
